Broomfield Enterprise: The University of Colorado has reached a $160,000 settlement agreement with two students who claimed their free speech and due process rights were violated after they participated in a pro-Palestine protest.

By early October, student Mari Rosenfeld will receive $20,000 and now-alumnus Max Inman will receive $15,000 from the university. Provided that Rosenfeld and Inman do not violate any CU Boulder policies, according to the settlement agreement, they will get an additional $20,000 and $15,000, respectively, sent to them by June 30. The remaining $90,000 will go to the students’ law firm.

“CU Boulder remains committed to fostering a campus environment where people feel free to express their opinions, ask hard questions, challenge ideas, and engage with one another with curiosity, respect and the freedom to disagree,” CU Boulder spokesperson Nicole Cousins wrote in an email to the Daily Camera. “At the same time, we have a responsibility to maintain a safe, productive and respectful learning environment and to apply our policies fairly and consistently. The university denies any liability in the case.”
