Westword: A state representative is fighting back in court against the Douglas County Board of Commissioners over contested local ballot language in the November election. The ballot measure, regarding how many representatives should sit on the board, has led to drawn-out public hearings and allegations of executive sessions behind closed doors.

State Rep. Bob Marshall of Douglas County filed a lawsuit on Monday, Sept. 7, in district court against the county and its commissioners, demanding that the two commissioner-authored ballot measures be stricken before the election. He argues that the board cited a nonexistent state law to justify a secret meeting and then used what was discussed to reshape how voters will decide the county’s future.
