Boulder Daily Camera: Late last month, I attended the monthly Parks and Open Space Advisory Committee (POSAC) meeting after seeing the agenda item on public comment had changed to an action item that required a vote. This change should have allowed for public comment, so I went have the opportunity to speak on this topic.

When I arrived, I was told it was up to the discretion of POSAC, but that decision seemed to be influenced after I arrived but before the meeting began. As the only person who wanted to comment, it would have taken them less than three minutes to listen to me; I have a longstanding reputation of being direct but respectful. In the end, no public comment was allowed on the issue of how public comment had been taken away and could be restored, which is ironic at best and, at worst, completely underhanded. I am grateful to the POSAC members who staunchly defended public input at Thursday’s meeting but POSAC cannot change this decision — it lies solely with the Commissioners, who seem to be removing public input in many areas of our local government.
