Secretary of state: Get dark money out of politics

The Daily Sentinel (Grand Junction): Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold wants dark money out of Colorado politics as soon as possible.

At a roundtable discussion with 20 Mesa County residents at Edgewater Brewery on Wednesday night, Griswold said she wants state legislators to get serious about campaign finance reform.

Griswold’s biggest bone to pick is with independent expenditure committees, which she said are the “super PACS of Colorado.”

These political action committees are not bound by the same rules as candidates running for office but frequently campaign in their favor using money from hard-to-trace sources.

Those committees poured $84 million into Colorado’s 2018 election, Griswold said, and $64 million of that was either from corporations or nearly impossible to trace.
