Redactions delay release of Dougco school board’s investigative report

From The Colorado Independent:  Douglas County School District staff today are redacting parts of an investigation report of a closed-door meeting between Ponderosa High School student Grace Davis and two members of the county board of education.

Spokesperson Paula Hans told The Colorado Independentthis morning that the report was likely to be released later today but was delayed because staff were working on redactions.

The Independent has filed an open records request for an unredacted copy of the report.

The investigation, conducted by the law firm of Sherman & Howard, is expected to cost the Douglas County School District and its taxpayers $177,779. That cost takes into account a discount of more than $90,000, according to the invoice submitted by Sherman & Howard.

The closed-door meeting between Davis and board Chair Meghann Silverthorn and Vice-Chair Judith Reynolds took place in March, without Davis’ parents consent or even knowledge, according to Davis. She claims the two board members tried to intimidate her into cancelling a student protest, scheduled for several days later. The then-sophomore later demanded the resignation of the two board members, a call echoed by hundreds of parents and teachers in the district.
