The Daily Sentinel: The Mesa County Commissioners directed staff Tuesday to explore ways to get around a Colorado law that requires governments to post legal notices in newspapers except under certain conditions.
Commissioner Cody Davis motioned to table a contract between the county and The Daily Sentinel in order to consider options to get around the requirement, which Davis said has been enshrined in Colorado law since 1911, calling it an “unfunded mandate.”
Legal notices are for things such as foreclosure notices, tax lien sales, contract notices and other similar postings, the majority of which are paid for by entities other than the government such as law firms and banks.
