Editorial: It’s important for school districts to post minutes

The Greeley Tribune: There’s a 2-year-old state law that requires Colorado school districts to post meeting minutes within 10 days of the minutes being approved.

Colorado Ethics Watch, a left-leading research and advocacy nonprofit, has done some research to see how Colorado’s schools are doing with the relatively new mandate. The results weren’t great for the state with less than 60 percent of the districts in compliance.

On the bright side, only four districts in Weld County were named out of compliance, and one of them — Eaton — seems to have been added erroneously. If it wasn’t erroneous it was at least excusable.

We urge the other three — Fort Lupton, Highland and Pawnee — to take a look at the policy and make the necessary adjustments to make the minutes available to the public.

To their credit, both Fort Lupton and Highland officials have said they will do just that. We never heard back from the Pawnee district, but we hope officials there are doing the same.
