Colorado Springs again refuses to disclose results of Sky Sox stadium survey

From The Gazette (Colorado Springs): The idea of moving the Sky Sox baseball stadium downtown as part of the City for Champions projects is a distant memory.

But a piece of information used to make the decision to drop the Sky Sox from the City for Champions lineup is still a secret.

The city attorney this week refused The Gazette’s fourth request under the Colorado Open Records Act to release the responses from the May 2013 city-sponsored survey that went to sports fans and others in preparation of the City for Champions application to the state’s Regional Tourism Act program. Mayor Steve Bach asked for the survey and the city paid $35,000 for it to be conducted.

Councilwoman Jan Martin said information about the City for Champions projects has been held close to the mayor’s vest. A city spokeswoman said Wednesday the results of an estimated $19,000 “stadium feasibility study” for the City for Champions project also would not be released to the public.

“I think when public money – funds – are spent on public projects, which City for Champions is, and the stadium is part of that project, then I think we should be transparent,” Martin said.
