Boulder Valley parents file lawsuit over school closure decision

Colorado Hometown Weekly: Three parents from Douglass, Flatirons and Mesa elementary schools filed a lawsuit Wednesday claiming the Boulder Valley School District’s school closures plan was developed without the public notice, observation and participation required by Colorado’s Open Meetings Law.

The lawsuit, filed in Boulder County District Court, follows the school board’s 5-2, Sept. 22 vote to close those three Boulder schools, plus Broomfield’s Birch Elementary, in response to continued enrollment declines. The district’s Resilient Schools plan also includes restructuring grade levels at two K-8 schools and relocating two elementary focus schools.

The changes are slated to go into effect in fall 2027.
