Taylor Swift asks Denver judge to seal photos

The Denver Post: Music superstar Taylor Swift is seeking to close public access to portions of a Denver U.S. District Court motion disclosing intimate details including photographs of the incident that she claims proves she was groped by a Denver radio talk-show host at a 2013 concert.

The motion seeks to seal hundreds of pages of court documents and exhibits including the photograph presented in a separate motion to dismiss a civil slander suit filed against Swift. The motion, filed Friday on behalf of Swift and co-defendants, claims that her privacy outweighs the public’s interest in disclosure. The motion also says that because of intense media interest in her case, its release could taint a jury pool in Colorado.

“In addition to the likelihood of these documents swaying a jury, it is all but assured that the photograph will be shared for scandalous and prurient interests — reasons that have nothing to do with the public’s interest in the Court’s decision making,” the motion says.

David “Jackson” Mueller  filed the suit in September 2015 claiming he was fired from his job and banned from Swift concerts for life based on false allegations about the Pepsi Center encounter on June 2, 2013. Mueller had been invited, as part of his then-job at 98.5 KYGO on the “Ryno and Jackson” morning show, to meet Swift backstage. Mueller’s suit claims a colleague groped Swift, not him.

“The public dissemination of this evidence will likely have nothing to do with the public’s interest in the court’s decision-making process. Rather, it will be driven by the prurient interests related to the facts alleged in this case,” Swift’s motion says.
