The Daily Sentinel: Student press freedom is being threatened by Grand Junction High School’s administration because of the reassignment of the school newspaper’s adviser.
GJHS’s Orange and Black adviser, Steve Fox, has been reassigned by the school’s administration. This has been cause for concern for many O&B staff members, alumni and community members. It begs the question of the health of student journalism and free speech at GJHS.
Fox has been the adviser of the paper for five years (2021-2026), but for 2026-27 school year, he will transition into a new role of teaching English composition and literature. However, he will remain the schools’ yearbook adviser. He is also the current adviser of Colorado Mesa University’s newspaper, The Criterion. Fox is an experienced journalist and a fitting adviser, as he worked as a news reporter for 15 years.
