McIntyre: Public participation shouldn’t require a road trip

Ouray County Plaindealer: If you’d like to attend the Ouray School Board’s retreat this week, you’re welcome to do so.

But you’ll need to drive almost 300 miles where there’s a seat for you in a conference room in the Courtyard by Marriott hotel in Colorado Springs.

That’s according to the district’s public notice about the board’s retreat happening Friday night.

They’ll be discussing important topics, including housing, strategic planning and what they’ve learned at the Colorado Association of School Board conference’s breakout sessions. Those topics vary widely – from how to get a bond passed to student achievement, school safety, housing for teachers and school finance among other things, according to the conference agenda.
