Judge to rule on CORA request for Visit Estes Park documents

Estes Park Trail Gazette: A ruling on a Colorado Open Records Act request to examine documents related to three former Visit Estes Park employees will likely be made this week, a Larimer District Court judge said Wednesday morning.

District Court Judge Stephen J. Jouard, after listening to arguments in a 30-minute court hearing on the issue, advised the two parties — Estes Park resident Michelle Hiland and Visit Estes Park — that he would issue an order on the matter at some time this week.

Visit Estes Park is the local marketing district for Estes Park. Its operations are funded through a local lodging tax.

The CORA request to obtain copies of exit interview documents was made by Hiland on Feb. 7, 2017. However, that request was denied by Visit Estes Park officials who believed that the documents contained privileged information and, as such, were not covered by CORA.

Hiland then went to court three weeks later and filed a request to have a judge rule on the matter.

Serious concerns about Visit Estes Park have been brought to light in recent months by Hiland, along with fellow Estes Park resident Art Messal. They have been openly critical of the way Visit Estes Park officials run the organization and its meetings. The two residents frequently air their concerns to the Estes Park Town Board.
