Loveland Reporter-Herald: A Larimer County judge ordered the release of an 18-year-old’s full autopsy report after she died getting an abortion in Fort Collins, citing Colorado open records law. The ruling overturned the county coroner’s decision to withhold the teen’s reproductive health information, and the coroner is now considering pushing for changes to the law.

Larimer County Coroner Stephen Hanks said that updating Colorado open records law to allow coroners to redact protected health and other identifiable information would strike the right balance between the public’s right to view autopsy reports and respecting the person that died.

Hanks‘ Office received the body of an 18-year-old woman Feb. 6, 2025, and her autopsy report was completed May 14, 2025, according to the court ruling by Larimer County District Court Judge Daniel St. John. Her manner of death was considered natural and the result of complications from the abortion. She developed a medical condition called disseminated intravascular coagulation, a condition in which blood clots form all over the body, according to the autopsy report.
