The Denver Gazette: Vince Bzdek started learning the industry that runs through his ancestral veins at an early age.

Each of the six Bzdek children pitched in to help with the multigeneration family business of owning and operating the Brush News-Tribune in northeastern Colorado.

The ink on newsprint rolling off the presses smelled like a promising future to the boy who grew up in the 1960s and ’70s.

His childhood intuition proved to be right, and after a 45-year career spanning five dailies and two political biographies, Bzdek, executive editor and vice president of news for the flagship Colorado Springs Gazette, The Denver Gazette and Colorado Politics, has announced his retirement effective Dec. 31.
