Open records request for emails sparks Longmont City Council debate

Daily Camera (Boulder): A resident’s open records request for any emails sent or received from two City Council members’ private email accounts that have also shown up on the city government’s email system — and the potential $1,350 city bill for complying with that request — split Council members in a Tuesday night debate and vote.

Councilman Tim Waters suggested Council cover that cost from its contingency fund after limiting the scope of the issues the open records search would cover. But his motion died in a 3-4 vote.

However, Mayor Brian Bagley ultimately agreed to write a check, if need be, to cover the cost himself, according to Regina Cheyney, the resident who made the request.
