Buck: Protecting the free press in the age of Google will take an act of Congress

The Denver Post: The advent of the internet ushered in new hopes for democracy and freedom, and for good reason. Totalitarian regimes thrive only in the absence of the free exchange of ideas.

President Ronald Reagan, recognizing the promise of technology for hobbling repressive regimes, remarked, “The Goliath of totalitarianism will be brought down by the David of the microchip.”

The promise of the internet, however, is not always borne out in reality.
