State treasurer can’t have access to PERA members’ records, Colorado Supreme Court rules

From the Denver Business Journal:  The Colorado Supreme Court Monday dealt the final blow to Colorado Treasurer Walker Stapleton’s attempt to get the records of the Colorado Public Employees’ Retirement Association’s top benefit recipients.

The Supreme Court declined to hear Stapleton’s challenge to a Colorado Court of Appeals ruling in 2013 that said he was not entitled to unfettered access to PERA members’ information, so the appeals ruling stands. That ruling affirmed a decision by the Denver District Court.

In 2011, the PERA Board of Trustees received a request from Stapleton for individual records of the top 20 percent of benefit recipients to include annual retirement benefit, year of retirement, age at retirement, last five years of salary as a PERA contributor, ZIP Code and division from which the member retired.
