So, for example, if you work for a private company or a nonprofit or some other nongovernmental employer, and if that employer fires you for your speech, the First Amendment does not apply.

Your speech may or may not be protected from your employer’s punishment by statutory or common law depending on the circumstances — but the First Amendment itself provides no protection.
