Open-records lawsuit against Boulder not funded by an anonymous benefactor

From the Daily Camera (Boulder):  There was no anonymous donor funding a public-records lawsuit against the city of Boulder, the resident who filed the suit now says.

Patrick Murphy, who sued Boulder to obtain financial modeling related to the city’s proposed municipal energy utility, told the Daily Camera in late December that a local businessman who wished to remain anonymous was paying for the lawsuit.

This week, however, Murphy said that while he believed that to be the case at the time, he was mistaken.

“I thought it was a businessman who was agreeing to pay for the lawyer,” Murphy said. “It turned out that it was a businessman who knew a lawyer who was willing to do this pro bono.”

After Murphy filed his lawsuit and the day before a hearing in the case, Boulder released a spreadsheet showing a 20-year financial analysis of one possible municipalization scenario.

Murphy went ahead with the hearing, saying he needed to know the inputs and calculations used to derive the analysis.
