McIntyre: The process is the problem

Ouray County Plaindealer: Let’s get this straight. County commissioners purportedly made a decision to hire their new county attorney on Tuesday.

They asked him if Nov. 1 “still worked” for a start date.

Their chosen hire, Leo Caselli, appeared on Zoom during their meeting on Tuesday morning and addressed the commissioners.

There were no other candidates present to see if they somehow had been selected for the job.

But Commission Chairman Ben Tisdel said the board would review and discuss the possibility of hiring Caselli “for the first time.”

If he had been invited to participate in the meeting, the contract was ready for him to sign and a start date had already been determined, how is this possible?

Coincidence? We think not.
