Martin: Our courts must adhere to First Amendment jurisprudence favoring a free press

Boulder Daily Camera: Just when you thought that former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin had accepted the fact that her 15 minutes of fame were over, she’s back in the headlines.

And this time, we might all pay a mind-boggling price for it. No less than the free-speech protections of the First Amendment of the U.S Constitution may be at stake.

The issue is what role, if any, the 1964 U.S. Supreme Court case of New York Times v. Sullivan in a freedom-of-the-press opinion will have for Palin, who enjoys referring to the “lamestream media” when she insults press people.
