Estes Park mayor’s emails erroneously removed from public view

Estes Park Trail Gazette: On Friday, June 5, a series of nine emails between the Trail-Gazette (TG) and Mayor Wendy Koenig were removed from the public record at the request of the Mayor. Those emails were an exchange regarding the 4th of July fireworks display and open communication.

Around 10 a.m. on Friday, May 29, the Town of Estes Park sent out a press release notifying the public that the July 4th fireworks display over Lake Estes had been cancelled.

Upon hearing the news the TG reached out to Town Administrator Travis Machalek and Mayor Koenig for comment, in particular, to ask if anyone from the leadership of the business community was included in this decision. Machalek got back to the TG later that same day, explaining that the decision was made with the overall health of the community in mind, and stated that nobody from the business community or EVRC was consulted in regards to this decision.
