Editorial: Senate Bill 262 is a good start at reforming Colorado metropolitan districts

The Denver Post: Colorado lawmakers are on the right track with proposed reforms that would force home developers to disclose their plans to use debt to pass off the cost of developing a community to buyers through increased property taxes.

Senate Bill 262, introduced last week, will require greater levels of disclosure for those purchasing newly constructed homes in metropolitan districts.

The bill’s sponsors should be commended for bringing this legislation, and it should swiftly become law. Sen. Rachel Zenzinger, D-Arvada, Sen. Bob Gardner, R-Colorado Springs, Rep. Shannon Bird, D-Westminster, and Rep. Hugh McKean, R-Loveland, are standing up to big developers on behalf of Colorado taxpayers.
