9NEWS: The Department of Justice is suing Democratic Secretary of State Jena Griswold for personal information about Colorado’s 4,000,000 registered voters.
The lawsuit filed on Thursday directs the Secretary of State’s office to share a statewide voter registration list, including a voter’s full name, date of birth, residential address and complete state driver’s license number or the last four digits of their Social Security number. The DOJ claims it needs the information to find ineligible voters and voter fraud.
The request for information started in May when the DOJ sent a letter asking Griswold’s office to turn over “all records” related to the 2024 election and to preserve any remaining records from 2020. Colorado is only required to preserve records of federal elections for 22 months, including voter registrations, ballots and voting equipment records. The Secretary of State’s office responded by sharing publicly available data, which does not include Social Security numbers and driver’s license numbers.
