Steamboat Springs School Board makes collective bargaining meetings public

From Steamboat Today:  After a lengthy discussion with several public comments, the Steamboat Springs School Board voted Monday to make collective bargaining meetings open to the public, regardless of the outcome of Proposition 104.

Board members Roger Good, Joey Andrew and Sherri Sweers voted in support of making meetings public and working with the collective bargaining team and the Steamboat Springs Education Association on a process outlining how it would work during the upcoming months.

Board member Robin Crossan opposed the motion, and member Scott Bideau was not in attendance.

Following that decision, the board voted unanimously to remain neutral on its public stance on Proposition 104, with Crossan saying that she felt taking a position on the ballot issue would reveal the board’s personal voting intentions on the proposition.

Sweers said she didn’t think the board should make a political recommendation.

If passed, Proposition 104 will require all meetings of school boards, or between district representatives and employee representatives at which a collective bargaining agreement is discussed, be public.
