9NEWS: 20 oil and gas companies have failed to report the chemicals they used in drilling and fracking operations as required by a Colorado law that took effect in 2023, according to a report out this week.
Neither a spokeswoman for the state agency charged with collecting that data nor one of the legislators who sponsored the law disputed the findings.
“What we see … across the board with industry is this sort of nonchalance about compliance because there don’t seem to be any consequences,” said Rep. Meg Froelich, D-Englewood. “And so this is terrifically disheartening.”
The law allows the state to fine oil and gas companies $200 a day for failure to report those chemicals.
