The Daily Sentinel: The Grand Junction City Council is in the process of rubber-stamping a decision to hire a new city attorney. The process used to get to this ending (final vote on Jan. 21, 2026) has been anything but transparent.
The initial step in this process occurred on Nov. 5, 2025 during an executive (aka secret) session seemingly concerning John Shaver’s retirement. What in fact occurred was a discussion about the appointment of Jeremiah Boies to replace Shaver.
Concerns over compliance with the Colorado Open Meetings Law
The agenda that was released before the executive session did not indicate any intention to discuss the appointment of Jeremiah Boies. This omission is likely a violation of the Colorado Open Meetings Law (COML), which requires transparency regarding the topics to be covered in such meetings.
