Open records regs still a hot topic in Glenwood Springs

Aspen Daily News: The open records lawsuit happening in Glenwood Springs is not a new problem for politicians and leaders throughout the state.

The Colorado Open Meetings Law was adopted in 1972, but recently different members of government throughout the state have proposed or aim to propose changes to it.

The type of court complaint filed by former city council member Tony Hershey — he objects to an Aug. 10 executive session earlier this year in which council members allegedly made decisions regarding the placement of the city manager on administrative leave — seems to be a common occurrence with local governmental entities. Many of them question whether the law is as clear as its title, the “Colorado Sunshine Law.”
