9NEWS: According to the Thornton Police Department’s body camera policy, officers in the city should be recording on their body cameras when responding to calls. However, the sergeant who responded to a call about the new chief of police failed to turn on his camera.
Two weeks before he was sworn in as chief, Jim Baird fired a gun in his Thornton apartment on May 14. On Tuesday, hours before his swearing-in ceremony, Baird admitted to 9NEWS he was negligent.
9NEWS requested body camera footage of the responding officers who arrived at Baird’s home to investigate the incident, but we were told by the city, “We do not have any responsive records.”
