Kersey’s town council updates speed camera law without much notice to public

9NEWS: The Kersey town board of trustees amended the town’s ordinance regulating the use of speed cameras during a special meeting Tuesday, after meeting behind closed doors for about an hour.

The amended ordinance, which passed the town board unanimously, adds a new subsection, clarifying that Kersey’s speed camera ordinance shall not apply to violations clocked by photo radar at or above 25 miles per hour over the posted speed limit.

But an expert on Colorado’s open meetings law questions whether the council gave the public enough notice that the law would change and whether the council deliberated and created that policy during an hour-long executive session Tuesday, which would be prohibited by the law.
