Glenwood Springs limits access to license plate data

Western Slope Now: The City of Glenwood Springs has restricted all outside law enforcement access to its Flock camera system effective on Wednesday, Feb. 11. This change prevents any external agencies from accessing license plate data collected within the city regardless of their location.

The modification follows a review of data-sharing practices and shifts the Automated License Plate Recognition system to a closed local alert network. The system will now notify Glenwood Springs police only when a stolen vehicle or a license plate belonging to a suspect passes a camera, comparing information against state and national crime databases.

The city implemented these changes over the course of several months. In October 2025, the “search” feature of the license plate data was disabled. Following a department-initiated audit in January 2026, the Glenwood Springs Police Department disabled the “lookup” feature, which had previously allowed non-Colorado agencies to access local camera data.
