Editorial: Justice should be blind — but not a black box

The Daily Sentinel: The Colorado legislature is considering how to fix a transparency problem in the state’s municipal courts — one that might have gone undetected without a newspaper putting a spotlight on it.

Grand Junction, unfortunately, is part of the narrative. Over the past two years, The Denver Post has detailed instances of illegal or questionable practices in municipal courts around the state.

In October 2024, the Post reported that poor and unhoused individuals in custody in Grand Junction Municipal Court were frequently appearing in court without attorneys.
