Douglas County commissioners pull back from potential news ‘partnership’

Castle Rock News-Press: Douglas County commissioners on Aug. 5 pulled a proposal that could have potentially led to hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars going to a Castle Pines newspaper in a “partnership” promising to deliver positive news about the county.

The proposal from Castle Pines Connection Publisher Terri Wiebold was set for consideration at 4 p.m., but about an hour before that time, the county notified Colorado Community Media that the agenda item had been pulled. The decision followed CCM’s submission of several questions about the proposal, and also followed former commissioner Lora Thomas’ criticism of the proposal in her online newsletter.

In late July, the Castle Pines Connection, a locally owned and operated monthly newspaper in Douglas County that has operated for nearly 17 years, submitted a proposal for a partnership between the publication and Douglas County.
