Denver City Councilmembers: Police department won’t share audit of license plate camera data usage

9NEWS: Two progressive Denver City Council members said the Denver Police Department refused to respond to their requests for data from its automated license plate reading camera account, despite being asked multiple times over several months.

City Council members at Large Sarah Parady and Serena Gonzales-Gutierrez said they are seeking access to the police department’s Flock audit log since May, which would show who has access to Denver’s camera data and who is running searches.

The Denver council voted down a contract extension for its pilot program with Flock earlier this year due to concerns that immigration agents could find a way to access the data. The city’s police department asked the council to approve an extension, arguing that the cameras have helped reduce car theft in the city and served as a valuable tool in solving crimes.
