Colorado police are already using AI — but experts say the tech still has red flags

But exactly how AI is being used by law enforcement and its ripple effects are not always clear, and experts warn that it comes with red flags around privacy and bias.

The AI that most people think about — deepfake videos of politicians and celebrities, or The Beatles releasing a new song with John Lennon’s vocals 43 years after his death — is not the kind of artificial intelligence being used by officers patrolling Colorado’s streets and neighborhoods.
