The Greeley Tribune: The University of Northern Colorado fielded 21 complaints against the Sigma Chi fraternity, leading to that fraternity’s suspension at UNC, The Tribune has learned.

After a months-long investigation, UNC suspended the Sigma Chi fraternity for seven years, citing multiple violations of the student code of conduct and university policy, including sexual harassment, discrimination, sexual misconduct and use and possession of controlled substances.

The Greeley Tribune requested complaints that led to the investigation and any investigative materials, including reports or emails maintained by the UNC Dean of Students Office.

Officials disclosed there have been 21 complaints in the past three years, including 18 in 2018 alone, but they have refused to disclose the complaints or investigative materials, according to an email sent to The Tribune this past week.

In the email, Vicki Niccum, assistant to the vice president and UNC Board of Trustees, cited several exemptions, including a Colorado exemption to releasing records related to sexual harassment, as well as the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974.
