Longmont denies request for records on city council harassment case

Times-Call (Longmont): Longmont city officials denied a Times-Call Colorado Open Records Act request for documents related to a harassment investigation among City Council members.

The Times-Call discovered an email sent to Mayor Dennis Coombs and Councilwoman Joan Peck on Tuesday afternoon from attorney Laurie Rust from a Denver-based law firm asking to meet because “the city of Longmont has engaged Gordon & Rees Scully Mansukhani to conduct an impartial, thorough, and prompt inquiry regarding allegations of harassment against female city council members by male city council members.”

It’s unclear who made the complaint against whom on the council.

Councilman Brian Bagley said that the allegation came from “someone, presumably council member (Joan) Peck,” after a series of recent heated council meetings where council members were upset with Peck using her private email address to converse with residents about city business and giving residents misinformation about the development process in a private meeting with constituents.
