Editorial: Greeley-Evans school district committee should be subject to Sunshine Law

The Greeley Tribune: The members of the Greeley-Evans School District 6 accountability committee have been appointed.

OK, we know this sounds dry and bureaucratic, but we think this one is worth paying attention to, so hang in there just a little longer.

The committee was created this past year when voters approved the first-ever mill levy override property tax hike to boost funding for education in Greeley and Evans. The committee, which is the first of its kind in Greeley, has one job. It exists to make sure the district spends the money it gets from the MLO — probably about $14 million per year — the way it told voters it would back in November.

Another way to say that is the committee is there to ensure district officials live up to the commitments they made to you when they were asking for your money.
